HydGene Renewables participated in this year’s Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition, joining industry, government and investors from across the region to discuss what it will really take to scale renewable hydrogen.

Across the week, the HydGene team showcased our technology and perspective on hydrogen scale-up, from on-site production using waste biomass, to the realities of moving beyond pilots and into repeatable commercial deployment.

Showcasing Australian hydrogen innovation

HydGene exhibited at the Summit as part of the NSW Government booth, supported through Australia’s hydrogen innovation ecosystem. Over two days, the team spoke with developers, industrial customers, policymakers and investors about how our bioengineered catalyst technology enables on-site hydrogen production, alongside biogenic CO₂, without reliance on electrolysis or large-scale infrastructure.

These conversations reinforced a recurring theme across the event: the importance of technologies that can integrate into existing industrial sites, work with real feedstocks, and scale in practical steps.

Scaling renewable hydrogen: from pilots to projects

HydGene CEO and Founder Dr Louise Brown also spoke on the panel “Scaling Renewable Hydrogen: Innovations and Integration”, alongside leaders from SILTRAX, Hysata and Bechtel, moderated by Michelle Gane.

The discussion focused on the gap between hydrogen pilots and commercial outcomes including execution risk, infrastructure constraints, financing first-of-a-kind projects, and the need for genuine customer commitment. Louise shared HydGene’s approach to scaling: distributed, modular systems designed for replication, co-developed with customers who already have both feedstock and hydrogen demand.

A key message from the panel was clear: while large flagship projects attract attention, early commercial success is more likely to come from smaller, modular deployments that quietly make the economics work.

Building connections across the hydrogen ecosystem

HydGene also participated in events hosted by the Australian Hydrogen Council as part of the AusHETS program, connecting with fellow Australian hydrogen innovators, investors and industry partners across the hydrogen value chain. We thank the AHC for their support at this event.
