HydGene strengthens pathway to commercial deployment through Shell and Technip Energies collaboration

HydGene Renewables has commenced technical collaboration with Shell Catalysts & Technologies and Technip Energies through the Greentown Go Make 2026 program, following the official kickoff in Houston, Texas across 9-12th June.

The launch brought together the five selected companies with technical, engineering and commercial leaders from Shell and Technip Energies to begin defining collaboration opportunities over the coming six months.

Representing HydGene, CEO Dr Louise Brown, Head of Engineering Peter Meek and Chief Scientific Officer Prof Robert Willows participated in technical workshops, site visits and strategic discussions focused on accelerating industrial deployment.


From biology to commercial deployment

The Houston program reinforced an important evolution in HydGene's commercial journey.

HydGene's technology is built around a proprietary biocatalyst platform that converts waste biomass into hydrogen and industrial chemicals. While biology sits at the heart of the platform, successful commercial deployment relies equally on reactor engineering, process integration, materials, manufacturing and system design.

"The conversations throughout the week were centred on the practical realities of commercial deployment," said Louise. "That's exactly where we want the discussion to be. Great biology is only one part of building a successful industrial platform. Delivering reliable, scalable systems requires strong engineering and the right deployment partners."


Accelerating industrial scale-up

Over the coming months, HydGene will work alongside engineering and technology specialists from Shell Catalysts & Technologies and Technip Energies to explore opportunities to further optimise reactor design, process integration and deployment pathways.

The collaboration complements HydGene's broader commercial strategy of combining biological innovation with world-class engineering expertise to accelerate the deployment of decentralised hydrogen and chemical production systems.
