Future Fit Asia 2026: Why Food Systems Depend on Resilient Chemical Systems

HydGene was selected as one of just 11 innovators invited to present at Future Fit Asia 2026 in Singapore across 12–13 May - an event bringing together leaders across food, biotechnology, water, health and industrial systems to explore how future resilience will be built across Asia-Pacific.


The discussions throughout the two days reinforced a growing reality - food systems cannot be separated from the chemical systems that underpin them. Fertiliser production, water treatment, industrial chemicals and energy infrastructure all sit upstream of food security. Yet many of these systems remain heavily centralised, fossil-dependent and exposed to fragile global supply chains.


A major theme emerging throughout Future Fit Asia was resilience. Food security is increasingly being viewed as national security. Clean water matters as much as clean energy. And regional manufacturing capability is becoming strategically important as industries seek to reduce dependency on imported inputs and vulnerable supply chains.

Another strong focus at the event was toxicity - particularly the long-term accumulation of pollutants across soils, water and food systems over decades of industrial activity.


The discussion is no longer just about identifying these problems, but about building scalable solutions capable of restoring circularity back into environmental and industrial systems.


These themes strongly aligned with HydGene’s own work using biological catalysts to convert agricultural and industrial waste into local fertiliser and chemicals, while more recently expanding into wastewater and PFAS reduction pathways.


Across the event, there was also a broader shift in framing - moving beyond sustainability alone toward resilience, circularity and local production capability.

Not:“How do we optimise the old system?” But:“What does the next system actually look like?” For HydGene, that means distributed chemical manufacturing from local waste streams - producing what is needed closer to where it is used.


Less transport. Less dependency. More resilient regional systems.
