HydGene Renewables Pty Ltd is a deep tech start-up revolutionising the production of green hydrogen. Utilising a bio-engineered biocatalyst platform, we convert waste biomass into hydrogen, offering a sustainable and efficient alternative to traditional hydrogen production methods. Founded in 2020 and spun out of Macquarie University by Dr. Louise Brown (CEO), Prof. Robert Willows (CSO), and Dr. Kerstin Petroll (CTO), HydGene is at the forefront of climate tech innovation.

The Role
As a Bioprocess Engineer / Project Engineer at HydGene, you will be at the forefront of innovation and sustainability. You will play a vital role in building Australia’s first biohydrogen plants as well as developing HydGene’s biomanufacturing facility. You will work closely with our engineering team, and collaborate with other scientists to drive our mission forward.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct engineering design for various projects, including engineering documentation such as PFDs, PIDs, site layouts, and project documentation such as budgets and timelines.

Prepare site/s to receive process equipment, coordinating civil works, utility connections, and regulatory approvals.

Work with suppliers and contractors to install and commission equipment.

Handover commissioned equipment to relevant stakeholders e.g., operators or scientists, by providing relevant SOPs, training, and ongoing engineering support.

What We Are Looking For

Relevant engineering degree (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or related fields).

Experience as a Project Engineer (taking engineering projects, including pilot projects, from design to commissioning) AND/OR experience as a Bioprocess Engineer (processing biomass feedstocks, working with bioreactors, downstream processing of bioreactor process fluids).

Automation and controls experience is a plus.

A strong commitment to process safety to protect yourself and others from harm.

Desirable: drivers license and ability to travel.
